Abstract
This research is constructed on the solidarity and
social problem "waria"'s group in Bandung municipality.
The term "waria" which means male woman, in one individual,
illustrates the condition of a person as if having
both female and male personality.
The purpose of this research is to study how far
solidarity and problem social "waria"'s group take place
and what development is carried out by the Social Service.
This study also tries to understand what "waria"
really is and why it is so.
The method used in this research is descriptive and
analytic with qualitative approach by way of limited
participating observation and orientated interview of 39
persons waria.
The research result justifies that a "waria"
possesses a male physical structure but an innate female
psyche; they can be divided into two groups namely (1)
intersexuals with male sexual organs but having female hormone; and transsexuals having male physical structure
but female psyche.
Besides that, results of investigation strengthen
the opinion of sex deviation scientists that the "waria"
have a strong sexual desire towards men; to satisfy that
desire many of them go "down street", having steady
sexual intercourse with their "boy-friend" and some even
pay men they desire and who are willing to serve them.
Lack of conformity between physical structure and
psyche causes deviant behavior as mentionied above; and
this deviant behavior arouses social problems.
Although they form a minority group their condition
makes it easy for them to contact each other and to form
a compact organization. Their situation enables them to
have effective interactions which strenghen their solidarity
towards each other.
