Abstract
Current world’s economy is inseparatable from Banking because business activities always linked to source of funding. As financial institution, bank serves as mediator between those who have money and those who need it to run business activities. Sharia banking appearances in Indonesia at 1991, initiated by MUI and Indonesian government, has brought some new spirits in Indonesian economics. Since then, Sharia banking has proved that it could survive through the global financial crisis in Indonesia. In this study we want to compare efficiency level between conventional and sharia banking in Indonesia. One way to asses efficiency level of a company is from its interest ratio (monthly interest rate compare to interest income). The purpose of study is comparing interest ratio between conventional and sharia banking in Indonesia during period of 2003 - 2006. For the study we use data from Bank Muamalat (sharia) and Bank Mandiri (conventional) This study is counducted to determine whether conventional interest rate ratio is higher than sharia bank. The method used is comparative descriptive method while data analysis technique used is two sample independent test. different average test. To find out the the difference between conventional and sharia bank, we used the homogeneous test of F-test. Then, used T-test to measure the actual significant result. The study result shows that Sharia Bank (Bank Muamalat) have more efficient fundraising compare to conventional bank (Bank Mandiri). Conventional interest rate ratio is higher than sharia banking. It has been proved with the tcount > ttable and based on probability Pvalue < 0.05, it describes that H0 is been rejected which means that conventional interest rate is higher than sharia bank.
