dc.description.abstract | Quality assurance is a major concern of academic institutions across the globe.1 This increasing and growing concern on quality assurance is caused by the significant changes in the global environment that have direct impact on the role, functions, shape and mode of operation of tertiary educational institutions and systems.2 The World Bank identifies (1) the emergence of worldwide labor market, (2) increasing importance of knowledge as a driver of growth, and (3) the information and communication revolution among the global phenomena that are continuously shaping and changing tertiary education.3 Another significant change in the global environment that directly influenced quality assurance is the growth of crossborder higher education.4 Quality assurance is critical in cross-border higher education because of the following reasons: (1) to protect students and other stakeholders from low-quality provision and disreputable providers; and (2) to encourage the development of quality cross-border education that meets human, social economic and cultural needs.5 The emergence of worldwide labor market and the growth of cross-border higher education give higher education no option but to improve the delivery of quality educational services and to implement quality assurance systems. | en_US |
