GOP LENGTH EFFECT ANALYSIS ON H.264/AVC VIDEO STREAMING TRANSMISSION QUALITY OVER LTE NETWORK
(Planetary Scientific Research Centre, 2013-01-04) Zulpratita, Ulil S.
H.264/AVC provides an interface for flexible, bandwidth-optimized transmission of broadcast video streaming in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The videa quality and compression ratio depends on Group of Pictures (GOP) structure. GOP structure also affects the distortion sensitivity of the video stream due to packet losses. In this paper, the effect of the GOP length to the video quality is investigated. The simulation results show that by increasing the GOP length, the video quality also increases. But after reaching the highest PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) or MOS (Mean Opinion Score) value, it starts to decreate. In the first increasing period, the efficient coding plays major role, so higher of GOP lengths lead to a better quality. After the optimal of GOP settings, when the video quality is the highest, the error propagation effect becomes more significant. Hence, using higher, the error Intra frame (I-frame) intervals, the error will be spreading because of significant distortion. Each type of transmitted video has different optimal GOP, defend on its characteristic. For four types of reference videos that are used in the simulation, the optimal GOP is reached at 5 ≤ GOP length ≤ 8.

THE LTEVIDSIM - THE LTEVIDSIM - LTE VIDEO TRANSMISSION AND QUALITY EVALUATION SIMULATOR
(Universitas Widyatama, 2014-02-14) Zulpratita, Ulil S.
The immense growth of mobile video traffic due to significant user demand has sparked a great deal of research on how to provide better-delivered video quality through wireless networks. The mobile wireless network is characterized by harsh transmission conditions in terms of bandwidth limitation, device mobility, power constraints, time varying and an error prone environment, resulting in significant amount of loss and delay. It is challenging to transmit and access multimedia data over wireless communication channels. Some distortions may take place in the video at the time of transmission or processing. Here comes the need to evaluate the video delivered quality. This paper addresses the problem of evaluating the quality of video sequences encoded for and transmitted over Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile network. The LTEVidSim is a MATLAB-based simulation tool-set for an evaluation of the quality of video transmitted over a simulated LTE network. It integrates the EvalVid and the Vienna LTE System Level Simulator. In this study, we analyse some of the thought-provoking research questions for video streaming over LTE network, and explain by some research examples how LTEVidSim can be applied.
