- ItemFAKTOR-FAKTOR PENYEBAB KEENGGANAN MEMBACA DI LINGKUNGAN MAHASISWA: STUDI KASUS(Universitas Widyatama, 2012-05-09) Farida, SasmiBanyak penelitian yang telah membuktikan tentang rendahnya minat baca mahasiswa kita, namun apakah sebenarnya yang menjadi fakktor penyebab terjadinya keengganan membaca di lingkungan mahasiswa tersebut? Berdasarkan pemikiran ini penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan factor-faktor penyebab keengganan membaca di lingkungan mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris Universitas Widyatama.Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis survey. Objek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner, observasi dan wawancara. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis diskriptif, tabulasi frekuensi dan persentase.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa enggan membaca karena (1)tugas-tugas kuliah tidak menuntut mahasiswauntuk membaca lebih banyak; (2) perpustakaan tidak mempunyai koleksi yang memadai baik dari judul maupun dari jumlah; (3) membaca belum menjadi budaya mahasiswa; (4) kegiatan mahasiswa beragam dan membuat mereka selalu sibuk; dan (5) adanya perasaan malu akan diolok-olok teman. Faktor penyebab yang paling dominan ternyata adalah factor internal yaitu factor yang muncul dari dalam diri mahasiswa itu sendiri. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa tidak seorang pun responden yang mempunyai kebiasaan membaca.

- ItemA PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS OF HUMOR IN THE UPSIDE MOVIE WRITTEN BY JOHN HARTMERE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF FLOUTING GRICE’S MAXIM(Solid State Technology Volume: 63 Issue: 4, 2020) Ramadanti, Saskia; Kinanty, Ayumi Niken; Kumalasari, Risma Dwi; Nafilah, Zahrah Faza; Farida, SasmiThe focus of this study is to identify what type of Grice's maxim is flouted to raise humor in a movie entitled “The Upside” and what types of humor are produced by flouting these maxims. This study aims at discovering the types of Grice's maxim and how those maxims are floated to raise humor. The research is conducted by using a descriptive qualitative approach for the data in the form of words rather than numbers and statistics. The sources of data are taken from Upside Movie (2017). The study began by watching the film to collect the data. The data are collected by using a table and analyzed them based on the Grice theory of flouting the maxim. In the end, the researcher draws the conclusion which is following the research finding. The results of the analysis show that four types of flouting of maxims are found; maxim of quality (25%), maxim of quantity (45%), maxim of relevance (10%), and maxim of manner (20%). The types of humor are found in this research are sarcasm (25%), replies to rhetorical questions (5%), clever replies to serious statements (10%), overstatement and understatement (10%), irony (5%), pun (10%), teasing (10%), double entendres (15%), and self-deprecation (10%).
- ItemTHE REPRESENTATION OF INDONESIAN FEMALES WORKING AS DOMESTIC MIGRANT WORKERS: A Comparative Analysis on Arab News Online and Jakarta Post Online(International Journal of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Vol.24, Issue 02, 2020) Hendar; Supri, Ida Zuraida; Sujatna, Meita Lukitawaty; Farida, SasmiThe research dealing with both printed and electronic mass media is an interesting research because they not only become more and more progressive in terms of technology starting from manual to digital uses of technology but also various themes can be analyzed from rhetoric, semiotic, framing and critical point of views such as critical discourse analysis. The objective of this descriptive qualitative research to analyze the representation of Indonesian female domestic migrant workers in news language texts in both English media, Arab News Online, and The Jakarta Post Online taken place before and after moratorium periods. The main data of this research is, therefore, the language used in news texts regarding Indonesian female domestic migrant workers in Saudi Arabia before and after moratorium periods. To obtain the objective of the research above, Van Dijk’s model of critical discourse analysis is used to analyze and describe a news text as social reality focusing on microstructure, superstructure and macrostructure of the texts. The result of this research shows that the Indonesian females working as domestic migrant workers in Arab Saudi are represented negatively and unappreciatively; conversely, the Jakarta Post represents them positively and appreciatively.
