Abstract
Industrializaton is the process of social and economic changes that transforms a group of people from agrarian-based society into the industrial-based society. Technology intensive industrialization has been believed to have an important role in economic development accumulation. Consequently, strategy of high-tech industrialization has been adopted by a , number of less developed countries. Howeve, the result of development effort spent during the past 50 years showed dissapointing results. Sharp disparity in economic welfare remains unsolved, instead dependency on import and degradation of ecosystem quality become more apparent. Adoption of high-tech strategy was apparently facing a number of obstacles and successful implementation was not relied only on availability of capital or individual knowledge but seemingly also the socio-cultural aspects. This research is oriented to reveal the potential of indigenous industries applying low level technology into a medium level technology in accelerating the economic development. This research explains that even from a simple and modest raw material such as the bamboo processed with medium level of technology, will significantly increase the commodity value added. This research also explains that industrialization of bamboo will increase the economic welfare of people who earn their living from the bamboo industry.
